Urban dwellers

20 : 05 : 2015 Maptia : #FutureofCities : Sony

Global – Storytelling platform Maptia has launched #FutureofCities, a project exploring the problems of, and solutions to, urban living.

‘Our cities are running out of space,’ says Maptia. ‘It is estimated that by 2050, 75% of the world’s population will live in urban areas.’ #FutureofCities offers a platform for creatives around the world to tell their urban stories, building a diverse and nuanced picture of what life is like in some of the world’s major cities.

A story about Japan’s skyscraper cemeteries sits side by side with a piece about Dhobi Ghat, ‘the world’s largest open-air laundromat’, while others have explored the difficulties of, and potential solutions to, preserving biodiversity in the city.

The Big Picture: People around the world are taking notice of their effect on the planetary eco-system. Even local brands will need to think on this scale in the age of Whole-system Thinking.
