Milan – The Design Academy Eindhoven will explore philosophical questions at this year’s Milan Design Week in April.
Designer Amélie Onzon’s ‘From Fable to Table’ project, for example, is a series of objects that confront the viewer with a choice: nurturing an animal or killing it in order to eat it. A sink with a copper hook above it explores the process of producing foie gras; the live duck can splash about in the sink, but it is also used to collect the bird’s blood once its throat has been cut. ‘People will pamper their pets, yet at the same time they will eat the meat from other animals,’ says Onzon.
‘Hair-Brush’ by designer Lea Haefliger explores the feelings hair provokes. The black hair attached to the brushes could be mysterious, erotic or something from a fairytale.
LS:N Global will be reporting on key new designs and trends from this year’s Milan Design Week in the Seed section.
