A gif to music: Storyboard animates music in collaboration for The Jameson Works

Dublin – The band Wild Beasts has teamed up with illustrator and animator Mattis Dovier to create a series of gifs that bring to life the music from two unreleased tracks.

The result is a monochomatic storyboard, a series of images that pulse and whir into life, telling the story of a sci-fi dystopian future.

Dovier created two pieces, one for the song Blood Knowledge and the other for Soft Future, and visitors to the site can switch between tracks by pressing the space key. Both have common themes and a visual language, but one follows a clean-cut young man, the other a futuristic android, into a digital landscape that continually changes.

Once finished, the site offers viewers a look at the creative process behind the project and a link to The Jameson Works, a platform that shows the best from a range of creators and artisans.

For more on the resurgence of gifs and an older internet visual language, read our Netstalgia macrotrend and our article on The Jameson Works for an insight into the project as a whole.
