London – During London Design Festival JAMESPLUMB exhibited a collection of lighting and furniture pieces that explored the revivalist process of indigo-dyeing, emphasising its rarity, value and the ceremonies associated with the material.
‘Indigo cloth is traditionally used as a dowry in rural tribes in China,’ Hannah Plumb tells LS:N Global. ‘We wanted to highlight the precious nature of this cloth.’ Burnished Indigo, a collection of delicate, primitively shaped lighting created through finger-pleating was accompanied by a large Chesterfield table and sofa. The objects highlighted the metallic nature of the deep inky indigo tone.
During the exhibition, guests were also served a delicate tea pairing by Arabeshi di Latte of painterly indigo-coloured tea reflecting the alchemy involved in ceremonial indigo-dyeing.
