Mind-reader: Swarovski Gems headgear visualises brain activity

22 : 08 : 2014 The Unseen : Wearable Technology : Awakening Tech

London – The Unseen, an experimental art studio that focuses on emerging technologies, has created a mind-reading headset in collaboration with Swarovksi Gems.

The designers made a headpiece out of 4,000 black Swarovski Spinel stones, chosen because of their material composition, which is similar to that in human bones. They then lacquered the gems with The Unseen’s signature Magick, a colour-changing ink specially devised by the studio. The material composition of the stones meant that they acted as a conduction insulator, absorbing any energy lost from the head, while the colour-changing ink visualised this energy loss. The stones change colour from black to orange to red, green, blue and purple.

‘We discovered the pattern formation in the colour of each stone evolves throughout the day,’ says the studio. ‘This fluctuates according to the area of the brain in use. When worn, the headpiece becomes a reflection of the inner human thought.’

This is not the first time that The Unseen has created innovative wearable technology that is both beautiful and highly sensory.
