Blank slate: Co-working space promotes fresh thinking

28 : 07 : 2014 Communal Workspace : Co-working : Bangkok

Bangkok The idea of a communal workspace has landed in buzzy Bangkok. Joint Café & Workspace is a clever iteration of the trend, whereby one floor of the car park at the Asia Hotel now houses a serene venue for workers.

Designed by 56th Studio, it is intended as a 'workspace for all', with different zones and flexible installations to make it suited to all sorts of workers. There are whiteboards that double as partitions, small window tables for casual meetings and a café.

The white colour palette was used as a ‘blank canvas’ where the ‘individualities’ of the clientele can ‘run free and breathe life to the venue’, according to the designers.

Transforming the 12th floor of a car park into a well-designed, multifunctional co-working area is a perfect example of Space Squatting. For more on how spaces can be co-opted for a new use, read our Symbiotic Branding macrotrend.
