Touch-typing: Haptic overlay adds touch capability to computers

San Jose – Touchscreen capability can now be added to home computers. The Multi-Touch G2 by PQLabs is a transparent overlay that can be attached to existing LCD or plasma screens to enable touch-sensitive capabilities. Essentially, your home computer screen can be transformed into a giant iPhone.

Rather than clicking a mouse, the user can touch the screen to move images and windows, activate programmes and browse through interfaces. All that is required once the overlay has been fitted is a computer running Windows XP onto which the software can be loaded. In addition to desktop browsing, the Multi-Touch will add a haptic element to video gaming; gamers will hit the screen to destroy virtual enemies.

New haptic technologies and interactive displays are changing the way we manipulate and control devices – a theme LS:N Global will explore further in our forthcoming Technology Market Report.
