Nutrients for the skin: Beauty brand taps into raw food movement

Bologna – We have heard about nutraceuticals, or ingestible supplements with beauty-boosting properties, as well as 360-degree wellbeing and – in food trends – the raw food movement. Now one skincare brand aims to wrap all three elements into one with a range of creams with edible raw superfood ingredients as its unique selling point.

Skin Nutrition, a new US-based brand founded by Richard Purvis, is applying the cues of organic raw food to anti-ageing skincare. On show for the first time at Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna 2014, products include Breakfast Smoothie, Cleansing Gel Smoothie and Renewal Smoothie – all made using raw organic superfood ingredients, which former nutritionist Purvis says makes them all the more effective.

The packaging continues the theme. Showing the earthy pulp within, it is slickly made with clean branding and beauty dispensers. ‘We are definitely seeing consumers more interested in beauty – inside and out,’ Purvis tells LS:N Global. ‘The raw trend is also huge. This is the latest stage. It’s about ingredients being at their most potent and in their purest form.’

Skin Nutrition is reminiscent of wider trends covered at LS:N Global. The Raw Beauty microtrend charted the rise of the beauty industry, borrowing inspiration from food. The Body Temples macrotrend also examined the rise in consumer appreciation for beauty and its connection to health and wellbeing.
