London – Goldsmiths University graduate Alex Duffner has collaborated with London based start-up Technology Will Save Us to transform a series of prototypes into commercial products for the home.
Domestic Science Machines is a series of kitchen equipment inspired by laboratory instruments. The designs are based around the idea that science can be accessible in the home and everyday objects can be given a multi-functional purpose. LS:N Global first spotted Duffner’s project at the New Designers exhibition in 2013.
‘I wanted to base the designs around the familiarity of household objects,’ Duffner tells LS:N Global. ‘This makes it easier for people to engage with scientific instruments without previous experience.’ Like the designers we highlighted in our Re-enlightenment Rising macrotrend, Duffner is imbuing non-scientific products with scientific meanings.
Technology Will Save Us is a collective of creative technology enthusiasts who educate people on how to produce technology, not just consume it. They will join The Future Laboratory for our Tech Futures Forum on 16 April 2014. Save the date to see the new, next and game-changing in the world of in-store, online and immersive, consumer-focused technology.
