Singapore – High-end Australian beauty brand Aesop goes rough and ready in its new Singapore store, with kilometres of coconut-husk string suspended from the ceiling. The material is a regional product, and its use here was inspired by the raw twine used to wrap the brand’s gift boxes. ‘The idea is to work with a sombre material palette in an unexpected way,’ says Aesop director Dennis Paphitis, who worked with Melbourne architects March Studio to design the space.
As explored in our Alphalux trend, rougher surfaces and materials can help add a new emotion to luxury interiors, as premium brands aim to offer consumers a new experience post-recession.
