A snapshot of our epoch

22 : 12 : 2016 Screen Shot : Shira Jeczmien : Archive

London – Screen Shot is a new zine that integrates the digital and physical worlds of publishing to create a cultural archive.

  • The concept of the publication is to capture screen grab moments using London as a springboard
  • The publication is a bi-annual print magazine as well as an online platform

The discussion about the value of print in the digital age has long been an enduring one, with many industry experts predicting the imminent death of print. Editor Shira Jeczmien, however, offers a new angle with her publication Screen Shot, which transforms our online discussions into a tangible archive, allowing the dialogue to be continued rather than becoming lost.

‘[The magazine] creates a screen shot of what was happening at the time, not through the news exactly, but more through collective ideas, events, discussions and exchange,’ Jeczmien told Hardzine.

The editorial content is a combination of popular culture and current affairs, approached in a scholarly manner with a light-hearted tone. Contributors include Emily Gosling, deputy editor of It’s Nice That, and the artist Richard Dupont.

The Big Picture

Media outlets are having to approach the digital versus print debate in a more creative way in order to captivate their readers. For more, see our Guardian Media Summit 2016 review.
