Adelaide, Australia – City-dwellers are faced with a never-ending clamour of urban noises throughout the day. From honking horns to people shouting, it can be difficult to find quiet in the chaos. Stereopublic is a public art project in the form of a website and an app that crowdsources calm spaces in cities around the globe.
Stereopublic invites users to contribute to a map identifying places where they can find moments of reprieve. People can visit these places and bask in the silence or they can listen to include compositions on the app by Australian sound artist Jason Sweeney, which are designed to be calming and meditative.
Described as a ‘sonic health service’, Stereopublic embraces a New Sublimity attitude in which people are seeking an alternative to a constantly connected lifestyle. For more, read our Insight report, including details of the Avoid the Shopping Crowds app.
