London – Fashion-forward department store Dover Street Market is celebrating Frieze London, the annual art festival, with an open house of art installations displaying new and exclusive fashion collections.
Since it opened in 2004, Dover Street Market has had an ethos of beautiful chaos, with a variety of avant-garde designers hosted in the same space. For Frieze, each floor will have special displays, converging fashion and art, until the end of October.
On the ground floor, visitors are welcomed to Dover Street Market with the comic book artistry of Japanese creative Katsuhiro Otomo. The basement bookstore Idea Books has been taken over by Tar Magazine and Michael Hoppen Gallery in an installation called Anonymous, which celebrates vernacular photography from the 20th century, while another installation showcases Aitour Throup’s New Object Research collection. For more on Throup’s work, see our Portfolio of the designer.
Dover Street Market has always been part art gallery, part retail space where consumers are invited to spend longer engaging with brands because they are presented in a unique way. For the latest in retail trends, read our reports of the recent World Retail Congress.
