Silver service: Angular tableware combines hi-lo

29 : 08 : 2013 Wood : Mixed Material : Christogle

Seoul – French fine tableware specialist Christofle has collaborated with Korean designer JinSik Kim to create a series of mixed-material plates and tableware, inspired by money.

The collaboration arose from a workshop Christofle hosted with the École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (ECAL), entitled Bi-material, where participants were encouraged to create things using different materials and forms.

‘We thought it would be interesting to see how this new generation understands money, what associations they would make and what new materials they would propose, perhaps more contemporary, more technological?’ says Anne Savelli, head of product design at Christofle.

Kim’s Cleaving Silver collection is made up of receptacles of silver, with cut-outs of stone, marble and wood. The silver represents money and it takes on graphic shapes when met with the blocks of heavier materials.

The tableware follows LS:N Global’s design direction, Geo Luxe which considers the value of material, and sees a mixing of high and low to create opulent, materially-diverse products.
