Eating by design: Coloured plates push healthy diet

11 : 07 : 2013 Vegetables : Calorie Counter : Mediterranea

Lucca, Italy – Italian design firm Studio Natural has put an elegant spin on healthy eating with its series of Mediterranea plates.

The bone china collection is decorated with a pattern in colours that represent the proportions and types of food in the Mediterranean diet, which is said to be beneficial for the heart. The vibrant colours on the rim of the dishes correspond to carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables, protein and dairy foods. Wine, tomatoes and olive oil also all have their own colours.

The plates, created for homewares company Marino Cristal, offer a guide for three courses, including dessert. Diners may have consumed an unhealthy number of calories if they make it through each plate, but at least they will have done it in style.

LS:N Global has previously covered how brands are helping consumers to eat more healthily. Look out for more in our forthcoming Food Futures report.
