London – British artisan group The New Craftsmen has opened a London pop-up store offering hand-crafted, heritage goods from across the British Isles.
The new location, in a disused garage and stables in Mayfair, proved a perfect setting for the pop-up’s theme, Gypsy Tones, inspired by the Appleby Horse Fair, a gypsy gathering in June that has been running in the north of England for centuries.
‘We are trying to find quirky ways of telling stories about cultural heritage and identity by making unusual connections,’ The New Craftsmen co-founder Natalie Melton tells LS:N Global.
The pieces for sale combine craftsmanship with a contemporary feel. A hessian tote bag by Patrick Thomas, playfully entitled The Nosebag, is offered alongside elegant iPad and make-up cases made from bridle leather by English company Doe, established in 1908.
