Tokyo – A new series of canvases by design studio YOY doubles as art and furniture, making them ideal for small living spaces.
The Canvas collection features seemingly flat canvases with a screen-printed drawing of a chair or a sofa stretched over a wood and aluminium frame. The canvas is made from an elastic fabric which, when leaning against a wall, can sustain weight and moulds to your body.
The series, which was presented at this year’s Milan Design Week, is available in three sizes: a chair, an armchair and a sofa.
The illusory concept echoes the trompe-l’oeil approach that we have previously noted in packaging and a new aesthetic in which designers play with texture, tactility and materials to visually trick consumers.
