Glasgow – Design studio Fraser Ross is exploring the future of wearable textiles in its latest project, Dark Senses.
The work examines how magnetic fluids can be formed into sculptures and how, in their solid form, they react to the environment. The substances can be manipulated by exposing them to different elements. When exposed to air currents, for example, they form peaks and curves.
‘The material could be controlled for use in textiles or form structures acting as a protective shield, while enabling users to interact with their environment,’ Ross tells LS:N Global. This magnetic material will be adjustable and could change the concept of clothes manufacture.
Dark Senses is on display at the Project-Ability Residency exhibition at the Trongate 103 until 2 March. For more on how science is exploring new possibilities, book a place at our Spring/Summer 2013 Trend Briefing and see our Re-enlightenment Rising trend presentation.
