Killer site: Lincoln slaying brought to life

20 : 02 : 2013 Interactive : Killing Lincoln : National Geographic Channel

International – The National Geographic Channel has launched a website to accompany its documentary drama series, Killing Lincoln, which aired over the weekend.

Created by marketing agency Mullen, The Killing Lincoln Conspiracy site enables users to explore content related to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and to his killer John Wilkes Booth, following the journey that led to Lincoln’s death.

With a HTML5 design and map-like look, the site immerses visitors into 1865 America, enabling them to discover facts about Lincoln and his killer as they move through different locations and dates. Users can discover anything from who assassin Booth was courting at the time, to Lincoln’s daily activities, while a calendar counts down how many days Lincoln has to live.

Google Street View enables people to see what the relevant locations look like today. Through geo-targeting, visitors to the site can also see which location they are closest to.

With sound effects, quotes from Lincoln and video clips from the Killing Lincoln series, it is an interactive site that lets users fully experience the history.

Non-linear storytelling is increasingly popular, with brands turning to interactive media that tells a narrative. For more, read our Crisis Revisited Seed.
