Istanbul – Italian studio Minale Maeda has presented open-source furniture designs, Keystone, at Istanbul Design Biennale.
‘Design is becoming more and more about producing systems and empowering others to produce,’ curator Joseph Grima tells LS:N Global. ‘Keystone is a series of furniture joints designed to be downloaded and 3D printed.’
The Keystone table and chair are held together through a single master joint connector. The furniture can be made from, and assembled with, local materials saving shipping costs, and with no need for joinery skills. According to the designers, Keystone is to structure what the Allen key is to assembly.
