Fit to drop: Decanters with a scientific touch

10 : 09 : 2012 Design : Maison : Studio

Paris – Petite Friture, a design studio in the Marais area of Paris, has unveiled Objets 2822, a set of refillable decanters in black glass created for use in the kitchen or bathroom.

The decanters were on display over the weekend as part of the Petite Friture collection at the Maison&Objet show in Paris. The funnel neck and eyedropper dispenser add a playful scientific look to the design, encouraging users to experiment with new ways to serve food.

This is a great example of adding a theatrical, participatory element to the dining experience. Consumers are increasingly interested in the process of bringing food to the table, and a scientific touch can be an effective way to engage with this trend. The product also has a sustainability angle: the figure 2822 refers to the number of plastic bottles thrown out every second in France.

For other pieces that take inspiration from science, read our Mad Science design direction. Check the Shows section for our forthcoming review of Maison&Objet.
