UK – Hannes Harms, Alex du Preez and Peter Krige have a vision for a more localised electronics industry.
By 2025, the three Royal College of Art graduates believe consumers will no longer buy electronics pre-made from high street stores, but will create them using the O.Update, a group project developed for their degree show.
Using printable electronics, O.Update enables consumers to select their electronic products online. They then visit a local O.Store, where a technician will manufacture the product to their specifications.
O.Update presents a new alternative to the ways in which brands produce electronic products, as well as how consumers purchase them.
In the future, families will modify more and more of their appliances, as well as their living spaces. To find out more, read LS:N Global’s The Hacked Home microtrend.
