Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Design graduate Maya Ben David has created a system that enables users to collaborate and contribute to a design and production process.
For her project, SAVE AS [ ], David asked designers to respond to the Arab Spring revolution and create digital artefacts that can be made using a 3D printer. Participants are asked to contribute content, which is gathered online into a source cloud and then edited to create a snapshot of a particular event.
Designers are then invited to create objects inspired by this collage of information. Contributions to the Arab Spring project include a rolling pin inspired by the Tahrir Square protests and a vase that tells the story of the Egyptian revolution as experienced by the designer through the internet.
In the Anarconomy Decade, designers are embracing new methods of production and distribution.
