Tulum, Mexico – Design Hotels has opened a pop-up hospitality experience on the Mexican coast that will run for six months.

Papaya Playa is described by Design Hotels as the ‘ultimate pop-up camp’. Consisting of 99 cabañas, the camp has been constructed using locally sourced materials, minimising the project’s ecological impact.

The site will include luxury touches, including food from Kater Holzig of Berlin’s Bar 25, and the Mini Super boutique selling products from international artists and designers. But the focus of the project will be on creating an authentic, local experience.

‘Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally rooted experience,’ explains Claus Sendlinger, CEO of Design Hotels. ‘A playful communal concept is at the forefront here, whether that is spontaneous creativity in the amphitheatre, beach jam sessions or inviting innovative companies to explore the ultimate green workspace.’
