Cheltenham, UK – Revitalised product packaging can help attract consumers looking to escape the dreary taste of the recession and trade up to affordable luxuries in the grocery store. Thanks to luscious new packaging designed by branding agency Sperm, Oxsprings, a British producer of premium air-dried ham, may soon be riding high on the hog.

Strong visuals – depicting complementary fresh foods such as asparagus and cantaloupe – engage the consumer while also showing potential buyers the many ways in which to serve the cured ham. The packs bear minimal text on the front, allowing for the full power of the visual punch. Calling, as it does, on intuition and wit as a vehicle for communication, Sperm’s redesign embraces the new design sensibility we’re calling Eve-olution.

The redesign is especially pertinent as new market research reveals that consumers are trading up and down on particular products as they look to balance shrinking household budgets while retaining the small luxuries a shopping basket may hold. For more on this, look out for our forthcoming report on No-Frills Affluents, the emerging consumer tribe that is set to affect long-term shopping habits and household priorities.
