Bloomington, Illinois – US insurance company State Farm has created an online commercial using Google Maps that puts your house at the centre of a disaster movie.
On the campaign’s website, you are invited to enter your street address and then create a state of chaos. A film starts with a robot hulking its way ominously towards your property, shown in Google street view, and then fires a laser at the house. An explosion is shown on Google’s satellite map view.
Exploding the house of a potential customer is a tongue-in-cheek way for an insurance company to market itself. Personalised advertising is explored in more detail in our Future Media Landscapes macrotrend.
