Modern history: High street goes heritage

Barcelona – Fashion staple H&M has opened its new flagship store in the Catalonian capital. Designers at Barcelona-based studio Estudio Mariscal put their mark on the whole store experience, from architectural and interior design to furniture, graphics and shopping bags.

Located in a neoclassical heritage-protected building, the store provides a striking counterpoint with its clean, clear lines. A vast open space below the central dome adds drama to the space and brings a sense of opulent luxury to the high-street brand. The interior also mixes the heritage and grandeur of the building with the fluorescent colours and LEDs so embraced by proponents of Synth Culture.
