Kuwait – A new burger bar is hopping on the sushi train, serving up burgers on conveyer belts. Slider Station is the brainchild of Basil Alsalem, founder of B+F Burger Boutique, the first gourmet burger place in the Middle East. The new restaurant offers smaller burgers on the conveyer belt so diners can sample a variety of dishes in one sitting, just as they might in a sushi train restaurant. Unlike the Japanese eateries, however, the Slider Station design is inspired by a healthy dose of Americana. The restaurant interior mimics that of a roadside diner in the US, with an industrial aesthetic and bar stools resembling oil barrels.
Slider Station demonstrates that the trend for luxe canteens, where fast-moving food is presented as gourmet dishes, has now moved to the Middle East. The restaurant is set to attract the consumer who is interested in meals on the go, but without the grease and grossness of a regular fast-food joint.
