Layer it on: Fashion for texture on show at LCF

09 : 06 : 2011 London : Yingzhi Luo : Barnett Lawson Award

London – Texture was a central theme for fashion design graduates presenting their final collections at the London College of Fashion (LCF) MA show.

The Collection of the Year award went to Nova Chiu for her technical ability and creative flair. She showed fur coats and dresses with sequins, beading and tassled trims interwoven for an eye-catching and innovative approach to surface texture.

Charlotte Barry won the Barnett Lawson award for best use of trimmings for her sumptuous amber and bronze range of dresses, featuring rich embroidered bodices, fringed shoulders and sequin-encrusted panels contrasted with sheer gauzy knife-pleat silks. Stine Riis won the Biddle Sawyer Silks award with her mixed fur, leather, wool and silk collection that had a sleek lady-like feel.

LS:N Global’s other student highlights from the 25 graduates on the catwalk included Yingzhi Luo for her Tibetan-inspired, multi-coloured layered fringing take on Mix Mash culture and Angela Brandys’ approach to a punk-meets-Stepford Wives bunny girl collection.

LCF and De Montfort University fashion students were inspired by clashing cultures, as reported in our Seed section yesterday.

LS:N Global will be presenting highlights from Graduate Fashion Week throughout this week. Look out for our round-up reports next week.
