Base note branding

07 : 03 : 2017 Scent Trunk : Perfume : Personalisation

Cincinnati – Scent Trunk is a new fragrance brand that enables consumers to create original scents based on their personal preferences.

  • The personalised scents are produced from consumers’ responses to an at-home Scent Test
  • The brand wants to offer customers a personalised experience that is different from mass-market retail

The service works by providing consumers with an at-home Scent Test, comprising six core scents. From this, consumers outline in detail what they like and don’t like about each, and are sent a customised formula based on their responses.

The finished scent is delivered as a one-month supply, and consumers are allowed to request a new fragrance every month if they are not satisfied. It has been created as a way to offer tailor-made scents that bypass today’s overwhelming, mass-market retail experience.

The Scent Test, which was designed using 16 months of consumer data, includes woods, citrus and florals.

‘We’ve created a solution to find your dream scent that is affordable, sourced with quality materials and allows people to fully explore their scent palette without ever setting foot in a mall,’ says William Yin, CEO and co-founder of Scent Trunk.

The Big Picture

As consumers become increasingly invested in customising their cosmetics, brands are offering perfumes that are as personalised as possible. See how Bon Parfumeur is also offering personalised scents in our Briefing report.
