Lighting with dinosaurs: Flos opens first US store

New York – Italian lighting company Flos opened its first store in the US last weekend during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York.

The store inhabits a 400-square metre space in SoHo’s Italian design-centric Greene Street that was previously part of the famous design-art gallery Moss. Designed by Fabio Calvi, the space is similar to the Maharam and Moroso area at the opposite end of the gallery.

The shop features a decorative centrepiece that is hard to miss. Described by Flos USA creative director Pui-Pui Li as ‘the dinosaur in the room’, the piece is a large replica of the brand’s recent Kelvin LED task lamp (first introduced at Euroluce 2009 in Milan) designed by Antonio Citterio and Toan Nguyen.

LS:N Global is covering ICFF until tomorrow. Look out for a forthcoming full review in our Micro Market section, in which we will explore market changes in depth.
