Vienna – Art and design studio Process has created a generative art piece that conveys the amount of energy used by the building in which it appears.
Commissioned by checkpointmedia for Raiffeisenhaus Wien GesbR, the installation takes data on cooling, heating, photovoltaic energy and electricity consumption generated by sensors placed throughout the building and runs it through a series of algorithms to generate dynamic visuals.
The piece responds in different ways according to the amount of energy consumed, with night and day, and winter and summer, producing wildly different results.
Generative installations are on the rise as artists unlock the creative potential of algorithms. Find out more with our Awakening Tech macrotrend. To learn how brands are opening up to address consumers’ environmental concerns, read our Whole-system Thinking macrotrend.
