Amsterdam –  Fashion label Van Slobbe Van Benthum (VSVB) has launched its new Hacked collection made from upcycled clothing.

Launched in a pop-up shop in Amsterdam’s Hôtel Droog, the collaborative collection comprises shoes, bags, knitwear and jerseys reclaimed from fast fashion brands. The pieces are then deconstructed and carefully crafted into new garments, with their origins completely hidden.

‘With Hacked, we do not believe in, think or work in this idea of changing quickly,’ Francisco van Benthum told Frameweb. ‘We try to speed down fast fashion by adding details, treatments and crafts such as hand embroidery, for instance; treatments that take a lot of time and make the customer more conscious and aware of products and how they are manufactured.

‘We try to compete with the fast fashion chains by slowing down fast fashion and presenting an alternative in the same price range.’

The Big Picture: In response to fast fashion, environmentally conscious fashion brands are increasingly incorporating Whole-system Thinking into their production methods. Read our column for more on the continuing debate about ethical fashion.
