Multidisciplinary designers Make That Studio based their Subgeometry project on a collection of photographic documents captured in the Gulf of Thailand in April 2014.

Recording a striking selection of coral, the designers applied the shapes and patterns of the natural structures they found to develop a series of patterns suitable for design in the architectural field. These designs have been catalogued in a hardback book that highlights the results of their exploration into the deep.

‘The beauty and complexity of underwater scenery is very wide and the connection between the organic and artificial world became immediately evident as we started diving,’ explain the designers.

The work was also exhibited at Venice’s Serra dei Giardini gallery as part of a larger debate exploring the relationship between water and landscapes.
