FABRICA for L'ARCOBALENO

Italy - Design studio and communication research centre Fabrica has launched a new collection for online retailer L’ArcoBaleno

The One and Only collection made by Fabrica for e-commerce site L’ArcoBaleno comprises nine pieces made by nine separate designers – all tactile, interactive and unexpected one-offs.

Pieces include Division Vase, a vase that the purchaser must split in two to use, Attaches-Moi, a hand-wrought iron bow, Centrum Fugere, a marble lockbox, and Maybe, a wall sculpture inspired by Sardinian bread sculptures and crafted in ‘bread cement’.

Sam Baron, director of the Fabrica design department, says the pieces reflect Fabrica’s versatility. ‘One and Only is not just an assortment of artsy design pieces … the project was approached as a big challenge around the online design retail market, which is typically rooted in pure visual appeal and industrial production.’

Fabrica, based near Venice, is a design studio that offers one-year mentoring programmes and functions partly as a think tank. The studio embarks on collaborations, offers residencies, lectures and tutorials, and works with a range of creatives from the worlds of art, design, film, writing and music.

The project has been launched with a striking video which echoes the Futurist Montage design direction previously featured on LS:N.
