London – Ever wished you could direct a film with your eyes? With Guillaume Couche’s new project, Fables, this is now possible.

Couche, who is graduating on the Innovation Design Engineering programme at the Royal College of Art, has created a two-part project that envisages how we will experience cinema in the future. In one part, viewers’ eyes are tracked, so that when they look at a character on the screen, they come into focus and you hear a sound from that character louder than others in the scene. In the second, viewers watch a film through the Occulus Rift virtual reality headset, which senses who you are looking at and takes you to a different scene being played out by those characters.

‘This has massive implications for how we will edit film content in the future, as viewers would be able to move through a film and have a completely different journey from others,’ explains Couche. ‘We will be able to watch the same film 20 times without having the same viewing experience.’
