Pick local: The forager’s guide to Miami

02 : 06 : 2014 Foraging Futures : Miami : Wild Food

Miami – An urban microfarm owner has collaborated on a new publication sharing knowledge on edible plants growing in South Florida to promote local foraging.

Tiffany Noé, the owner of urban microfarm Plantmatter, teamed up with graphic designer George Echevarria on a visual publication documenting 42 species of edible plants abundant in the area surrounding Miami.

The guide uses rich photography by Nick Vagnoni to give a glimpse of the foraging lifestyle and provide almost encyclopaedic depiction of each plant. There are also tips about where to find each plant and insights on preparation and nutritional values. Celebrating local resources, Forager: A Subjective Guide to Miami's Edible Plants is part of Plantmatter’s multi-disciplinary project which aims to help the population interact with Miami’s unique flora.

LS:N Global predicted the rise of self-sufficient lifestyles and interest in wild food in our microtrend Foraging Futures. To learn more about consumers who are sourcing their own food locally, read our macrotrend Rurban Revolution.
