Amsterdam – In partnership with Tubes Radiatori, Satyendra Pakhalé Associates has created the Kangeri Nomadic Radiator, a portable space heater for the design-conscious consumer.
The radiator can be moved around a space, warming only a small area as needed, thus providing an energy-efficient heating solution. Its body is aluminium, while the top platform and handle are made of oak. Satyendra Pakhalé says he wanted to create an object ‘that applies the technology of today and brings back poetic imagination to an object of utility’.
The designer’s products ‘emanate from cultural dialogue, synthesising new applications of materials and technologies’, according to his website. The Kangeri Nomadic Radiator is an example of this. It is loosely inspired by the kanger, a pot filled with hot embers traditionally used under clothing in Kashmir to drive away the cold. A Kashmiri proverb about the kanger hints at the object’s emotional and poetic qualities: ‘When I take you under my arm / You drive fear from my heart.’
