London – An artist has questioned the mass production of furniture by asking whether designers can create an emotional attachment by slowing down the production process.
I-Wen Lee has designed ‘The Growing Stool’ and through pictures and a video, she demonstrates the growing process. Lee pours fluid such as clear resin or glass fibre into funnels and this drips onto a shelf. Like the formation of stalactites, the process gradually creates the legs of the stool.
