Australia, Italy, UK – My favourite Seeds in the hospitality sector in 2010 were about a hotel within a hotel, a hotel hidden in a hillside and a slick solution to late night needs.
The Lost & Found project, a pop-up hotel room within a hotel in Melbourne, by creative studio Right Angle, is the sort of counter-intuitive idea I hope to see more of in the future.
In Bozen, Italy, I like the eco-friendly aspect of the Matteo Thun-designed KlimaHotel, but most of all I like the fact that its 11 units will be built inside an Italian hillside, just like another Austrian hotel I once stayed in, the Rogner Bad Blumau by artist Hundertwasser.
And my third choice is The Love Machine. OK, it’s not a first and it’s only a vending machine, but I like how it’s a neat collaboration between a series of London icons: Selfridges, Katie Grand and the Saint Martins Lane Hotel.
Every day from 20 December until the end of the year, the LS:N Global team is choosing its favourite stories from 2010. We will resume normal service on Tuesday 4 January 2011.
