London – Designer Benjamin Hubert has released his new Tenda lighting collection that uses underwear fabric to create stretchy, tent-like lampshades. The project was launched last week at DesignJunction at the London Design Festival 2012.
Tenda means ‘tent’ in Italian and the product uses a construction technique that Hubert adapted from tent-making. The product brings together surprising materials from different origins, such as fibreglass rods from the kite-making industry, Lycra from the sportswear industry and a four-way stretchy mesh from the underwear industry.
Hubert explains that his approach to design is materials-driven, which shapes how he envisages a product and the way in which it is used.
