London – Graduate Zhan Wang has created an animated utopia in which China can extract lunar power.
Set in 2028, the four-minute animation, Lunar Economic Zone, depicts national celebrations as China receives its first shipment of minerals mined from the moon, which are to be used as lunar power.
The film is the work of Zhan Wang, a final-year student at the Architectural Association in London. His project is a comment on China’s growing status as a world superpower. The parade and faultless systems in Wang’s futuristic China reflect the nation’s acknowledgment of its increasing power and resources, particularly over the west.
The film was made with 3D modelling and motion graphics. Wang plans to make a video game based on this world.
Alongside the subtle commentary on China’s rise to economic global domination, the film is another example of the renewed interest in fictional, belief-suspending other worlds. To learn more about this trend, see our macrotrend on Faction Marketing.
