New York – Fashion and architecture have been combined for menswear designer Richard Chai’s new retail installation in a shipping container underneath the High Line in Manhattan. The designer worked with Snarkitecture to create a pop-up store as part of the city’s Building Fashion event.
The store’s expressive cavernous structure was created from a dense white foam material, forming an interior similar to a glacier. The hand-carved tactile walls present a varied landscape in which to display Chai’s collection. When the store closes, the interior will be recycled as foam insulation.
The next installation of Building Fashion will open on 5th November, when the pairing of avant-garde menswear designer Siki Im with New York design practice Leong Leong will be launched.
