Growing trend: turning glasses into greenhouses2014:01:28
At the RCA preview show last week, Alicja Patanowska presented Plantation, a ceramics project designed to turn discarded glasses into miniature greenhouses.
Patanowska collected glasses, abandoned on London’s streets, from bus stops, benches, curbs, alleys, gates and even shopping carts. She then developed a set of handmade porcelain inserts designed to rest inside each individual glass.
‘These unique porcelain components are suitable for growing plants, and when turned upside down the whole thing can be used as a mini greenhouse, ideal during seed germination,’ Patanowska comments.
With its simple yet sweet design, Plantation allows users to go back to basics and reconnect with what they are eating. For more read our Rurban Revolution macro trend.
