Fairytale idea: The jewellery that changes shape

03 : 09 : 2013 Playful : Avant Garde : Alexandra Druzhinin

London – Jewellery designer Alexandra Druzhinin has designed an avant-garde jewellery collection that earned her the London College of Fashion Off-Catwalk award.

Moscow’s St Basil’s Cathedral and pop-up fairytale books inspired the playful designs, which are intended to surprise the wearer. Through model-making experiments of paper engineering used to make pop-up books, the designer has developed a built-in, rotating mechanism that enables the pieces to change their form. By placing layers on top of each other, each piece of jewellery can be worn opened or closed, transforming its design from a minimal aesthetic into a mesmerising display of geometrically patterned surfaces and flamboyant colours.

The angular-shaped jewellery merges fine metals, such as brass, silver and copper together with laser-cut perspex. These are characteristics of our Neo Kitsch design direction.
