New York – CLOUDS is an interactive documentary that features interdisciplinary artists, hackers and coders in conversation about creative code, the future of data, interfaces, and visual technology.
This Kickstarter-funded project is as an experience generated from a database of richly tagged interviews, and is an example of Big Friendly Data as outlined in our The Dawn of the Mega-Systems trend.
The viewer will input a question or search term as the starting point, setting the initial trajectory. As each subject offers different paths of conversation to follow, a unique narrative experience occurs.
Directed by Jonathan Minard and James George, the interviews were filmed using RGBDToolkit open-source software library developed for 3D filmmaking with Kinect. The toolkit makes it possible to create the computer-graphic/video hybrid seen in the film. Kickstarter supporters of CLOUDS also support the development of the RGBDToolkit.
CLOUDS is due to be released later in 2013 and a short preview was shown at Resonate in Belgrade. Look out for more coverage of this new media festival in our Insight section soon.
