Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia Airlines is adding a social twist to its reservation system by allowing customers to book flights and check in via a new app, MHbuddy, on social media site Facebook.
Developed with technology partner SITA, the app enables visitors to the Malaysia Airlines Facebook page to see whether any of their Facebook friends are on the same flight, are travelling to the same destination or live nearby. Users can then decide if they would like to share their itinerary with their network before choosing to sit next to their friends.
Malaysia Airlines is not the only airline to introduce social seat selection. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is going one step further by letting passengers choose who they would most like to sit next to by browsing the LinkedIn and Facebook profiles of other travellers.
This is a good example of how crucial social networking is to help brands connect with consumers.
