Matt joined The Future Laboratory in 2022 as deputy foresight editor of LS:N Global.

Having worked in forecasting since 2016, Matt has developed a deep subject specialism in gaming, youth culture and digital futures, helping companies of all sizes navigate bleeding edge trends.

As well as contributing across sectors, Matt is responsible for helping set editorial direction and commissioning articles across the LS:N Global platform.

Matt has also previously worked at WGSN as an associate editor, and in fashion and in music, releasing two albums and touring around Europe with his previous project. He’s an obsessive rock climber and spends weekends searching out his latest project at crags around the UK.

What drew you to the world of trends and foresight?

I came to it almost by accident, but I find the combination of thoughtful creative analysis and predicting the future to be truly fascinating. There’s so much complexity and nuance to unpack when you’re trying to understand societal shifts on a large scale, and it’s the process of constantly trying to solve that puzzle that keeps me interested.

Which macrotrend or article is essential for LS:N Global subscribers to read?There’s so much talk about what’s happening with the metaverse at the moment, but no-one really knows what it is yet. The Betterverse gives a really interesting and important perspective on how we can all make sure it ends up being somewhere that makes room for everyone.
