Community of champions: Civic project transforms Olympic site

London, UK – Architecture and design collective StudioSuperniche hopes to recycle the fence that has encircled the site of the 2012 Olympics into useful structures.

StudioSuperniche’s Olympic Legacy Toolkit concept proposes building temporary structures that are beneficial and fun for local communities, using the blue plywood from the fence surrounding the Olympic area once it has been dismantled.

The toolkit will comprise plans for six structures: a kiosk, a boathouse, a ping-pong pavilion, an allotment shed, a gallery cube and a bird hide. The kit aims to involve the site’s neighbours in the planning process and will activate vacant plots, allowing the niche users of London’s Lower Lea Valley to reclaim the Olympic landscape.
