London – A new exhibition called The Hatch at London Design Week is combining food and design, inviting the public to try their hand at cooking, while simultaneously marvelling at dreamy interiors.
As part of The Dock – designer Tom Dixon’s curated selection of stand-alone exhibitions, pop-up cafés and installations – design consultancy Studio Toogood has collaborated with Italian food design agency Arabeschi di Latte to produce an installation of colourful and dreamy interiors, while allowing people to cook simple egg dishes from one of the four recipes available.
The bold shapes and intriguing patterns designed by Studio Toogood display clear aesthetic references to the modernist Memphis Group. This ‘playscape’ also invites the viewer to play with the shapes themselves, creating new architectural structures. Faye Toogood of Studio Toogood says that the exhibition’s comforting feeling took her back to her childhood.
